My main subject could not film for a few weeks, therefore i organised a test shoot with a younger classical musician but also if it was good enough to feature in the documentary. I wanted to practice, lighting, camera angels, sound and editing. I started of with making him feel comfortable with the piano playing through the piece a few times and then asked him to do it whilst i filmed him, this was a very effective technique which i will use with my next shoot as it makes the subject feel more at ease and comfortable in front of the camera.

after he had played it through once and i had left the camera on the tripod in the same position for the whole song i asked him to play it again as I moved the camera around to get external shots, this was because i only had one camera but in my future shoot i plan to use two cameras which will eradicate this issue.

We then set up the interview, I sat him infant of a window which gave lots of natural light on his face but also behind my model was a light which was not as strong so it gave texture to the background and a nice backlight to it. I used a rode microphone to pick up the sound which worked perfectly as it was a directional mic so it was crisp.

overall, i am very happy with how the day went, i plan to use this shoot in my final product but it also filled me with confidence for my next shoot with my main subject which is coming in the coming weeks.
