- for my shoot with my pianist, i checked the room and saw that they had a spotlight on the piano, i angled this at the pianist playing so his face was lit up. However, there was no lighting on his face, i left the spotlight on in the background for texture and will bring a halo light or soft box for the interview :

As you can see the piano would be under the back lighting and the soft box behind my camera is to light my subjects face during the interview itself.
- For my second shoot with my drummer i could not bring such big equipment because it was in a smaller room, however, luckily this room had big open windows unlike my painist's room. Therefore i decided to use natural light to light up his face by making sure the blinds are up to get as much light in as possible. I had to shoot on a high aperture due to the bright sunlight to make sure the light didn't blast my highlights out and to make sure i got a good contrast and sharpness whilst still being able to see his face.
